Course Details

For those who work in construction, a White Card is essential. A White Card certifies that you have completed a General Construction Induction course and are competent in the basic skills and awareness you need to keep yourself and others safe on a worksite.

Completion of this course is mandatory for anyone who wants to work in the construction industry or have unsupervised access to a construction site.

Course outcomes:

TME is licenced by Worksafe Victoria to provide this course.  More and more employers are recognising the Victorian White Card as preferred over cards from other states.

The course is aimed at all workers working in or carrying out construction work, including self-employed persons, labourers, apprentices, builders, tradespeople, supervisors and project managers. White Card training (CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry) covers basic knowledge of construction work, health and safety on the worksite and the laws that apply, common hazards you may encounter and how associated risks can be controlled.

To be safe on the worksite, a White Card is essential and compulsory, making it an important part of any training for a tradesperson. The course runs in 1 day, and participants are provided with the necessary equipment they need.

Students who successfully complete this nationally accredited training will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit of competency CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.

Course structure:

You will learn how to;

  • Identify health and safety legislative requirements of construction work

  • Identify construction hazards and risk control measures

  • Identify health and safety communication and reporting processes

  • Identify incident and emergency response procedures

Prior to training starting, you will be asked to complete a short assessment, so the trainer understands your preferred learning style and is aware of your grasp of English.

This is so he or she can assist you to get the most out of the course. It may also be necessary to complete enrolment documentation if this has not been done prior.

Classes are usually fairly small (10 people maximum) so everyone has an opportunity to participate and ask all the questions they need There will be a slide presentation, and you will be provided with a book to help you understand the content of the course.

Assessment Methods:

At the end of the course, you will be asked to complete an Assessment Questionnaire to demonstrate that you understand what was taught during the day.

Completion of this assessment to the standard required is necessary for the Statement of Attainment to be issued.  The trainer will also ensure you know how to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment expected on a construction site Your assessor is looking for evidence that you are competent in the unit requirements.  To show that you are competent you must be able to:

  • Perform the task to workplace standards

  • Manage a range of different tasks

  • Respond to contingencies or breakdowns

  • Deal with the responsibilities of the workplace, including working with others.

What happens after I submit my assessment tasks?

  • Your trainer or assessor will examine your work and decide whether it meets the criteria. If so the work will be marked ‘competent’ and a Statement of Attainment issued.

  • TME will then advise Worksafe through our secure portal that you have met the requirements of the unit of competency.

Reassessment procedure If you are unable to demonstrate the required level of knowledge and skills through this assessment task on the first attempt your Trainer may choose to verbally assess you to gather further evidence of your knowledge of specific questions.

In this situation your they will make note of this on your assessment task including notes on what answers you provided. Resources Provided: Learning resources will be provided including; training manuals, PowerPoint presentations, You-tube clips etc.
