Course Details

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the most up to date knowledge on the resin socketing of steel wire ropes. The course involves an informative discussion on the techniques of socketing, followed by a practical demonstration of how to socket standard six stranded and multi-stranded steel wire ropes.

 

Description

Although a basic course, the content is quite substantial and covers the following areas: -

  • Types of Rope Construction

  • Socket and Rope Terminations Used

  • Properties of Wirelock Resin

  • Standard BS.EN.13411-4

  • Method and Step by Step Socketing Procedure.

Each candidate will be required to complete a written and practical assessment which will involve work of a physical nature. As such it is their employers’ responsibility to ensure that they have the required medical fitness.

Depending on course location and the facilities available, the practical assessment may include the proof load testing or destruction testing of rope terminations. If successful, a certificate will be issued. This will help the Employer to address certain legal requirements by being able to demonstrate employee competency. A detailed course handout is also provided for future reference.

 

Duration

  • Whilst the standard course is intended to last 2 days, bespoke courses, including those for white metal socketing, can also be discussed upon application.

 

LEEA Certified Course

  • The content of this course and the standard of instruction has been approved by the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA). 
  • A certificate will be issued by LEEA on successful completion of the course.

 

Prerequisites

  • Course Participants should have a basic understanding of steel wire rope constructions and socketed terminations.

 

What participants need to bring

Each participant is required to produce photographic ID on the first day of the course. Failure to do so will result in the participant being unable to attend.

  • If this course is held at a Certex UK location, participants will require Safety Footwear.

  • If the course is to be held on a Client’s site, additional PPE may also be required as specified by the Client’s site safety rules.
