Aims:

  • To introduce health and safety law relevant to working at height.

  • To review regulation, code of practice and guidance notes relevant to working at height.

  • Guidance of delegates through the risk assessment process and hazard spotting relating to working at height.

  • To give delegates correct information regarding safe working procedures with equipment, fire, hazardous substances, electricity, manual handling and PPE.

 

Objectives:

Delegates will be able to:

  • Discuss and answer questions regarding health and safety issues pertaining to working at height.

  • Answer specific questions regarding relevant health and safety legislation.

  • Demonstrate how to complete a risk assessment of a given area or task that is adequate.

 

Course Content

Content and Methods:

  • Discussion on the benefits of health and safety.

  • Meaning of the workplace.

  • Highlight of the main legislation and legal penalties/ notices. Identifies the differences between Acts, Regulations, ACOP’s and guidance. Terms: Reasonably Practicable, Contributory Negligence, Duty of Care.

  • The Work at Height Regulations 2005, Good Practice, Examination of Equipment, Emergency Procedure,

  • Head Protection.

  • What are Risk Assessments? Why do them? Define Hazards, Risks and Control measures.

  • Question and answer sessions relating to working at height problems specific to the needs of the client’s delegates.

  • Practical demonstrations on the client’s premises.
