Leadership Skills is the original YLX program for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Up to 48 class members meet monthly, September through May, and learn about personal leadership skills and community service. Students are selected from schools across the Oklahoma City Metro.
Leadership Skills is the original YLX program for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Up to 48 class members meet monthly, September through May, and learn about personal leadership skills and community service. Students are selected from schools across the Oklahoma City Metro.
Over thirty community leaders and volunteers work to create unique learning experiences for these students. They focus on a variety of leadership skills such as ethics, effective communication, apathy, conflict resolution, crisis management, and much more.
As with all YLX programs, there is no cost for students to participate and rides are available to and from class each month.
Leadership Oklahoma City, founded in 1981, is a local nonprofit organization committed to the development of effective community leaders. In addition to the 36-year-old Signature Program.
Leadership Oklahoma City has programs for high school age participants under its Youth Leadership Exchange (YLX) umbrella, and also occasionally produces short format adult programs, such as the LOYAL Program.
The programs each use a varying combination of community information, skills for volunteer leadership, networking, and community projects to engage participants more effectively in community service.
Our coaching is guided by principles, assessments and surveys built from Google Projects Oxygen & Aristotle. Our coaches are getting outstanding results by focusing on leadership best practices, providing actionable resources and feedback, and acting as both a sounding board and trusted mentor.
Participants in this dynamic program learn to better understand the varying behavior styles of staff members and how to communicate most effectively with each.

This session presents an overview of local government and its relationship to other governmental bodies. Our community’s elected officials meet, speak with, and interact with the class on issues that are important to West Houston.
