We’re an incorporated association and a registered charity based in Brisbane/Meanjin in Queensland. We’re run entirely by volunteers for the purpose of bringing people together around our common love for making. Our hope is by doing this we can help combat loneliness and social isolation that is so prevalent in today’s world.
We are primarily a social community group. That is we exist to help people create and maintain social connections. We do this by providing a space that is safe and comfortable for everyone to be part of. We run regular workshops, social events and working bees, and members often run into each other throughout the week as they’re working on projects.
You don’t have to become a member to join our community! You can participate in our community by:
- Come to a social event (check our events here).
- Join our public Discord server (tap here) and chatting with members and our wider community.
Who We Are
- We are a collective of friendly, like minded makers. We help each other out, and we love talking about nerdy stuff! We have people interested in pretty much anything you can think of. Being a safe space is ingrained in both our policies and culture, so we have a diverse range of individuals from all sorts of backgrounds. It doesn’t matter who you are, you’ll be welcomed into our community.
A small and incomplete snapshot of some topics our community are interested in include:
- Digital fabrication including CAD, 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC tools, Cricut vinyl cutter, etc.
- Electronics projects like making PCBs, circuits, LEDs, ESP32/Arduinos, IoT sensors, robots, etc.
- Arts and crafts including cosplay, sewing, cross stitching, paper crafts, drawing, etc.
- Computers and coding like building/repairing computers, wiring code and software, etc.
- Sooo much more that we can’t fit on this list!
- Interested in something not on the list? Someone in our community probably is too! Tap here to join our Discord server and start chatting!
How We Operate
- We operate using consensus based decision making, which aims to come up with the most equitable solutions for everyone. Members get a direct say in how we operate, and can propose policies and purchases at meetings.
- We have a management committee that handles the governance but our volunteers handle the day to day operations. Volunteering is also part of the fun and a great way to learn new skills and make new friends.
