Teaching Fashion, Teaching Art, Teaching Design
is it possible to teach fashion? Giulio Marangoni asked himself this question back in 1935: his fame with the Italian aristocracy had already been established, thanks to his fashion garments. To answer it, he founded the Istituto Artistico dell’Abbigliamento Marangoni, or the Marangoni Artistic Clothing Institute in Milano. It was a school for fashion designers and professionals.
In 85 years, Istituto Marangoni has never stopped believing in the value of training and constantly updated its programmes to meet both Italian and international market needs. In the past few years, Istituto Marangoni opened four new schools: London in 2003, Paris in 2006, Shanghai in 2013, and Milano Design in 2014. Istituto Marangoni recently opened the new School of Fashion, Art & Design in Firenze and in Shenzhen (2016), Mumbai (2017) and Miami (2018), the international capitals of fashion, design and luxury.
The teaching spaces of Istituto Marangoni have tested the talents of four generations of professionals, hailing from 106 different countries and representing the heritage of our school. Istituto Marangoni continues to successfully ‘teach fashion’, as its founder wished, with the addition of design, having many things in common with fashion: colour, materials and creativity.
With a wide range of preparatory, undergraduate and master’s courses, Istituto Marangoni has always had the goal of training professionals in key areas, such as design, communication and managerial coordination.
Its mission to empower talent in fashion, art and design is based on:
In addition to a variety of long and short courses in fashion and design, the new Firenze school runs an intense art-oriented programme, encompassing History of Art, Art Management and Visual Multimedia Arts.
Students at Istituto Marangoni are constantly motivated to grow and they get all the tools they need to step into the working world with confidence. Through highly qualified teachers, our students get in touch with leading companies in the fashion industry, the same companies that turn to us to find their next hires.
Students from all over the world meet in our schools in Milano, Firenze, Paris, London and Shanghai, and exchange ideas, projects, inspiration and visions. All of these lead to an evolution of their aesthetic taste, helping them gain insight on their future career options.
The postgraduate programme Fashion & Textile Design Management equips participants with the creative skills and professionalism demanded by the global fashion system, with outstanding links to industry.
The Fashion Design Programme provides participants with the techniques to design and create menswear or womenswear, while responding to changing needs in the international fashion and luxury industries. Fashion designers are the inspiration for creative ideas and new trends.
