The National Food Laboratory (NFL) Ghaziabad is an Apex Food Laboratory of India engaged in Quality testing of food under Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
National Food Laboratory (NFL), Ghaziabad is a premier analysis and research organization in frontier areas of modern Food Testing.
The laboratory has exhaustive analytical capability to test any food sample for compliance as per FSS Act, Rules and Regulations.
The objectives of the Laboratory are to provide the high quality ultramodern analytical solutions in the field of Food Sciences and training in frontier areas of modern food analysis.
Primarily the analysis of food samples are carried out as per Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, Rules and Regulations 2011 as well as under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and Rules 1955; Where it is required.
The Laboratory provide centralized national facilities for new and modern techniques in the inter-disciplinary areas of Food Analysis and allied Food Sciences to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India which is a Apex Statutory agency to safeguard the quality and safety of Food in India
The Laboratory was earlier known as Food Research and Standardisation Laboratory(FRSL) and was established in December 1971. The laboratory started form its old premises at Navyug Market, Ghaziabad and was functioning under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at that time.
The erstwhile FRSL was shifted from Navyug Market, Ghaziabad premises to this new campus at Indirapuram, Ghaziabad which was built under World Bank Assisted Capacity building project in 2008.
Name of the laboratory was changed to National Food Laboratory on 10.09.2018.
The laboratory has end to end most of the analytical capability to test any food samples for compliance as per FSS Act and Rules/Regulations.
At present the Laboratory is working in Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) mode with M/s Arbro Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. (M/s APPL) for the sample analysis purposes whereas the sample management and supervision of analysis part is controlled and monitored by the NFL/FSSAI officials.
To conduct food testing for maintaining the confidence that the food produced, consumed in India and exported from India is safe, wholesome and adhering to the highest international standards.

To support the implementation and enforcement of the Food Safety Standards Act Rules and Regulations by providing comprehensive accredited scope of testing.

Food Safety course is offered by National Food Laboratory. Framing of Regulations to lay down the Standards and guidelines in relation to articles of food and specifying appropriate system of enforcing various standards thus notified.
