PalC

The Palliative Care Centre for Excellence in Research and Education (PalC) was set up as a tripartite collaboration by Dover Park Hospice, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and National Healthcare Group (NHG) in October 2017.

As the population ages, there is growing interest in the application of palliative care to non-cancer illnesses such as end-stage organ failure and dementia. Based on their respective illnesses, patients have different needs which can be holistically managed through palliative care. Given the unpredictable disease trajectory at the end of life, characterised by gradual deterioration with brief periods of stability, there exists challenges to them being referred for palliative care in a timely manner. This collaboration therefore aims to develop and grow the evidence base for the delivery of care in end-organ disease.

PalC is also committed to developing and providing quality, evidence-based training and education programmes to build and nurture capabilities, capacities and connectedness in healthcare professionals and volunteers, so they may competently support patients to live comfortable, productive and dignified lives. The tripartite collaboration enables PalC to leverage on the strengths, capabilities and capacity of its partner institutions to achieve its vision and mission.
