BSS stands for Bharat Sevak Samaj, which is the National Development Agency promoted by the Planning Commission, Government of India, to ensure definite public cooperation in order to implement government plans. The functioning of Bharat Sevak Samaj is allowed unanimously by the Indian Parliament.
The Bharat Sevak Samaj was sponsored by the Planning Commission of India in the background of the first Five Year Plan in 1952 to provide a national platform for constructive work.
BSS was identified with a mission of providing education to the doorsteps of the learners, thus enhancing public equality and also creating flexibility for a lifetime of education. Under the BSS National Vocational Training Mission, BSS extends vocational training programmes with a duration ranging from 1 to 2 years.
