Since 2002, TUM Asia has been running joint Master Programmes conferred by TUM, with NTU and NUS, such as MSc in Industrial Chemistry; MSc in Integrated Circuit Design; MSc in Green Electronics; MSc in Aerospace Engineering; and MSc in Rail, Transport and Logistics.
Lecturers and professors hail from as far as Germany and their wealth of knowledge from various fields provide a spectrum of experience for the students to glean from.
TUM Asia offered the first TUM Bachelor programme in 2010 in collaboration with Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), Singapore’s Fifth University.
In 2020, TUM and SIT further established their partnership by launching 2 joint Bachelor degree programmes, the Bachelor in Chemical Engineering (Hons) and the Bachelor in Electronics and Data Engineering (Hons).
To meet the changing needs of the economy, TUM Asia also launched a new series of executive education courses to deliver leading edge curricula for the upskilling of industry workforces.
By 2020, more than 1,800 graduands have come through the doors of TUM Asia and now ply their trades in top research institutes and companies across the globe.
Master of Science (MSc) Programmes
TUM Asia’s Master of Science (MSc) degree programmes offer students an outstanding postgraduate education of the highest quality as a designed melange of academic and industrial-linked courses in modular, project-based and industry-oriented format.
Currently, TUM Asia offers five (5) full-time MSc programmes: MSc in Aerospace Engineering, MSc in Rail, Transport and Logistics, MSc in Industrial Chemistry, MSc in Integrated Circuit Design, MSc in Green Electronics.
TUM Asia currently offer a variety of MSc scholarships to enable students to achieve their true potential and turn aspirations into inspirations.
Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) Programmes
After the successful start-up of TUM Asia’s Master of Science programmes, TUM Asia was invited to partner with Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), to offer Technical University of Munich’s (TUM) Bachelor degree courses in Singapore.
This opportunity saw us join Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) as one of her first Overseas University (OU) partners in 2009, offering our first TUM Bachelor degree in 2010.
Since then, we have been running our TUM Bachelor degrees in partnership with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), and have been seeing TUM graduates enter the workforce since 2013.
In 2020, the partnership with SIT was further strengthened when the existing Bachelor degrees were evolved into joint SIT-TUM programmes, specifically the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Chemical Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electronics & Data Engineering.
Executive Education (EXD) Programmes
TUM Asia’s Executive Education courses are catered to professionals and individuals seeking specialised learning outcomes, and are designed to the meet the needs for workers in today’s skilled industries.
Part-time courses enable the learner to manage both work and educational requirements, while hands-on modules provide the real-world knowledge to accompany classroom concepts.
A range of EXD programmes are available – including Industry 4.0/Smart Factory, Logistics, Railway Engineering, Transportation and Food Science & Nutrition.
Technical University of Munich (TUM) was founded in 1868 and is ranked as Germany's #1 University. Known as one of Europe’s leading technical universities, TUM has strived to create sustainable solutions for society through excellence in education and research.
17 TUM professors and alumni have also been awarded the Nobel Prize since 1927. Through TUM’s unwavering commitment to the betterment of society, TUM Asia was set up in 2002 as the first academic branch campus of any German university.
TUM Asia offers Bachelor and Master degrees by TUM, in partnership with universities in Singapore. Additionally, TUM Asia now offers a new suite of Executive Education courses in areas such as Industrie 4.0 and Precision Engineering.
Five Reasons why TUM is a Great Choice
1. Talents are our assets, Reputation is our return
According to the 2011-13 and 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities (also known as Shanghai Ranking), TUM was placed as the #1 University in Germany.
TUM has been placed among other prestigious and internationally recognized universities, such as Harvard University, The University of Tokyo, and the National University of Singapore. In the 2015 QS Rankings, TUM was also placed as Germany’s #1 University.
Besides being Germany’s #1 University, TUM enjoys many other accolades such as being the only German university to be awarded the “University of Excellence” award for 6 consecutive years (2006 – 2012) and enjoying the fourth-best ranking among all technical universities in Europe.
2. The best lecturers the world has to offer
5,000 papers & 18,000 citations only attest to the highest academic standards at TUM. Professors at TUM engage in both teaching and research at the same time, thus actively educating the bright minds of tomorrow with the most recent & advanced information in the field.
Teaching staff at TUM Asia are flown in from Germany on an exclusive teaching basis, ensuring that students get the undivided attention of their lecturers.
Lecturers from the local universities and industry are also contracted on a course-by-course basis to provide relevant & practical expertise, creating an environment for holistic learning.
3. Strong Industry Network
At TUM Asia, we believe in equipping our students with a practical education, combining theory with industry-relevant application. As Germany’s #1 University, we enjoy strong ties with significant industry partners, such as BASF, Clariant, Infineon, Intel, Rohde & Schwarz and Wacker, just to name a few.
The curriculum of our courses are jointly developed with our partners so that our students acquire knowledge and skills that are relevant for tomorrow’s world. Scholarships are available widely to outstanding students and internships are relevant to the pupil’s course of study.
4. Hands-on Approach
Isaac Newton founded the Law of Gravitation after he observed the apple falling from the tree. At TUM Asia, we believe that learning is linked closely to a hands-on approach. In all our courses, students undergo a period of thesis work alongside an internship.
This serves to provide an avenue for students to test their theoretical knowledge, as well as inspire them to take what they have learnt and innovate the future.
Students have gone on to pursue research-related careers, and more recently, the set-up of TUMCREATE (by NTU & TUM) to provide electro-mobility solutions for cities in the tropics have opened up opportunities for students to put to use what they have learnt in school.
5. Strength In Diversity
As Thomas Friedman said, “The World is Flat”. Globalization is now an inevitable force that is here to stay, and at TUM Asia, we proudly boast a diverse enrollment of students hailing from over 28 countries.
This means that we foster a vibrant learning environment where the student learns beyond the textbook but also through the lives of their counterparts.
Ideas are synthesized across the diverse economic realities ad students learn to see from multiple vantage points, creating a capacity to solve problems in creative ways.
TUM Asia aims to groom future leaders in selected areas of technology. Specifically, the 2-year full-time Master of Science in Industrial Chemistry will be an enabling postgraduate course for specialist engineers for the pharmaceutical, as well as the fine and specialty chemical industries.
The Master of Science Programme in Rail, Transport and Logistics (RTL) conferred by Technische Universität München (Technical University of Munich, TUM) will provide graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully master the challenges faced in the areas of transportation.
The Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering programme is awarded by Technische Universität München (Technical University of Munich, TUM). The programme is conducted in Singapore and it serves to provide graduates with an in-depth knowledge in the field of aerospace engineering.
The SIT-Technical University of Munich (TUM) joint degree programme in Chemical Engineering (CE) is the first and only course in Singapore to equip budding chemical engineers with relevant chemical Industry 4.0 skillsets, to meet the current and future needs of the chemical industry.
