Home-based learning initiated in Malaysia for New School Term

The new school term is likely to begin in Mid-June across Malaysia and the Ministry of Education has announced a home-based learning and teaching model for the new school term.

This was revealed in a press release by Minister for Education Mohammad Radzi Md Jidin based on the overall COVID-19 situation sweeping across the country.

The new school term will last for 25 days and it is likely to begin on June 13 or June 14. This decision coupled with the educational television service “Didik TV” launched earlier this year will help the students stay afloat the discontinuation in education suffered due to the pandemic.

It was also announced that in lieu of the current coronavirus situation in the country, the examinations for the Malaysian Education Certificate (SPM) have been delayed till March next year

Answering questions from the media later, Dr Mohd Radzi said,

if schools were to reopen for physical schooling, students sitting for major examinations would be given priority for face-to-face schooling’.

Currently, Malaysia is in a "total lockdown" from Jun 1 until Jun 14.
