At The Sewing Machine Company, we understand that not everyone has the opportunity to learn to use a sewing machine whilst growing up. That is why we offer affordable dressmaking classes to bring the joy of creating garments to a wider proportion of the population.

We provide informal sewing classes that can be booked for your preferred  time and day of the week. We will be available to guide you with your sewing project. We encourage clients who enjoy either or both hand-sewing and machine sewing.

I show you how to use commercial patterns and explain to you the instructions given to construct your garments. I can give you handy tips and show you short cuts with the patterns and how to finish your garments neatly and professionally.

Jemima's Creative Quilting offers weekly Patchwork Classes. Create one of our class quilts or bring your own project and receive expert tuition in various techniques. All skill levels are welcome, beginners to advanced!

Beginners will start off on the Table runner and placemats pattern so that they can learn all the basic skills for successful Westalee Design ruler quilting.

Studio Thimbles Level 1 Course (STL1) is a course sewing for beginners like a White Belt in Martial Arts – in order to earn your Black Belt, you need to start with basics!  STL1 is a sewing course for absolute beginners to help you start your sewing journey in fastest and easiest way.

For those of you who have never sat at a sewing machine or maybe the last time you sewed was high school.  This course will cover the absolute basics and have you feeling confident to tackle any project.

Designed for the novice sewist, the Sew from Scratch 6 week beginners course helps participants to improve their confidence through a series of fun sewing projects.  Start with getting to know your machine and move through to using patterns and basic garment construction.

Want to learn to sew? From simple mending to alterations, Dressmaking or Patchwork and Quilting, we cover it all. Come along, you'll make new friends, have a laugh and sew lots. You can work on our simple projects or bring along your own items or projects to sew.
