This course provides teacher candidates with an overview of teaching fundamental movement skills, active living and healthy living by investigating the three strands in the Health and Physical Education curriculum.

This program will benefit teachers who are developing their own class curricula and teachers wishing to become resource persons for physical education at a school or district level.

Students will investigate the mind-body connection, the use of movement as an educational and therapeutic tool and explore ways to plan and implement rich and appropriate indoor and outdoor movement programs and activities for young children.

Skills and techniques are taught in class, but they are secondary to the overall goal of making the students feel comfortable, challenged, and aware of the benefits to a healthy lifestyle.

Through physical education offerings, students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities and will know the implications of and understand the benefits from involvement in lifelong physical activities.

The Physical Education 10 (3 credit) course is intended to foster the formulation of a healthy lifestyle while promoting social skills and values transferable to other areas of the students’ lives.
