Who is this module for?
This module has been designed for staff from a range of professional backgrounds. Applicants will be professional registrants who have normally completed one year of preceptorship having achieved locally based competencies. In addition, you should have access to patients with cardiological illness in either wards, CCU (Coronary Care Units), Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories (CCL) or a community setting.
What are the key aims of the module?
The module aims to support and develop students to:
Critically consider the assessment, monitoring, diagnosis and management of people with cardiac conditions.
Critically apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology associated with the development of cardiac disease.
Synthesise knowledge and skills in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of person and family centred care for patients with cardiac disease.
Critically explore the evidence base supporting cardiology disease management strategies designed to optimise cardiovascular health.
How will I study?
You will be expected to attend six face to face days which will be a combination of key note lectures, seminars and practical workshops. In addition supplementary materials will be made available online which have been designed to prepare you for each day of delivery and to follow up face to face sessions. These materials will be stored online in the module’s Blackboard (Bb) area for your consideration.

How will I be assessed?
The assessment for this module is in two parts, as such students will be required to:
Undertake an online multiple choice question examination
Write a 2,500 word case study
On successful completion you will:
Critically apply advanced cardiology knowledge to an appropriate patient group recognising and managing their health status through appropriate decision-making and clinical reasoning.

This one day national face-to-face course will aim to equip cardiologists and trainees with the knowledge and skills for pertinent general medical and cardiometabolic issues that they will face as part of their clinical practice.
Our Level 1 Specialist Centre located at the University Hospital of Leicester, hosts a dedicated centre of care which delivers a streamlined pathway approach. Supplemented by ten Level 3 centres across the region, we are able to deliver lifelong care closer to home.
The purpose of this course is to enable you to progress in becoming a competent practitioner within the specialism of cardiac care. This will allow you to develop the knowledge and skills required to enable you to participate in the delivery of evidence-based care.
The Cardiology programme runs over 5 years. The first 3 years are core training, in which the trainee gains basic cardiology experience.
Specialty training in adult Cardiology in London allows trainees to see and be a part of the breath of state of the art Cardiology practice.
