Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences and its affiliated institutions are the legacy of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the first indigenous religious congregation for men in India’s Syrian Catholic tradition. Inspired by the visionary leader, religious reformer and founder, St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the CMIs have made significant contributions to education, establishing a network of esteemed institutions throughout India. The CMI journey in the field of Higher Education begins with the establishment of the Sacred Heart College (S.H. College), Thevara in 1944. The Rajagiri High School situated in Cochin was in fact one of the first schools to have come in the unaided sector when it was established in 1964.
Currently, the CMIs oversee over 800 schools, 13 special schools, 41 colleges in Arts, Science, Commerce, and Physical Education, 10 B.Ed. colleges, 4 nursing colleges, 4 engineering colleges, one medical college, one university, 3 law colleges, 6 research centers, 7 technical institutes, 41 hostels and boarding houses, 17 cultural centers, 2 super-specialty hospitals, and 114 non-formal education centers.

- The CMI Vision of Education, inspired by its founding father, St.Kuriakose Elias Chavara, is to transform an individual into an integral human being modelled after the biblical image of Jesus Christ. It aims at rendering an all-round and excellent formation of students, deriving energy and guidance from the life of Jesus Christ and from the rich cultural heritage of our country.
- CMI educational institutions are established as minority rights institutions of the Syrian Catholic Community, based on minority rights constitutionally granted in India. However, the institutions serve all sections of society irrespective of their caste, creed, or affiliations, and they maintain an atmosphere wherein all the students and staff are equally accepted and delightedly helped to grow in their own cultural, social, and religious traditions.

Evolution to Excellence

- Rajagiri Vidyapeetham, driven by the CMI vision for excellence in education, expanded its reach with the establishment of Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences in the year 2005. Located on an eco-friendly campus in Kakkanad, the College is part of the sprawling 85-acre Rajagiri Valley campus, beautifully situated along the Chitrapuzha and Kadambrayar rivers.
- Strategically located near industrial and technological hubs, Rajagiri Vidyapeetham offers a comprehensive educational journey from pre-primary to doctoral levels and is committed to contemporary, relevant curricula, along with necessary approvals and accreditations, considering the evolving needs of students while maintaining its core focus on excellence and holistic development.
- Affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences offers both undergraduate and post-graduate degrees conferred by the MG University. Striving to become a global knowledge nest, this temple of learning aspires to mould the individuals to become responsible citizens with intellectual, social, and environmental awareness.
- Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences began its journey under the prominent guidance of Rev. Fr. Augustine Thottakkara, the first Manager, Rev. Fr. James T Antony, the first Administrator, and Prof. Manoj Menon, the first Principal. In 2006 Prof. P K George took charge as the Dean of Studies, marking a profound influence in the growth of the College. Accommodating all the qualities of an academician, he strived to accelerate the all-round development of the students. The College initially offered two programmes, BBA and B.Com Model 1 Computer. In 2008, the College blossomed under the stewardship of Fr. John Therezhath CMI. It was in the same year, the new college building was blessed and the students were shifted to the new building. Diversified courses such as Bachelor of Computer Applications, B.Com Model 1 Computer, B.Com Model 2 Computer, B.Com Model 2 Taxation and B.Com Model 1 Taxation were introduced in 2011.
- In 2014 the College metamorphosed with a charismatic aura under the guidance of Rev. Fr. A.J. Saviance CMI. Emphasizing all round development of the students, he encouraged the activities of various clubs like Sports club, Arts & Cultural Club, Literary Club, Environmental Club, E-Cell etc. It was his staunch love for nature that made the campus develop into a ‘green canopy’, Rajeevanam, which now falls under the umbrella of Rajeevani, the green initiative. With his humanitarian approach, he formed Rajagiri Sparsh as part of Campus Social responsibility, and Social Awareness club which has always been a helping hand to the needy. The IQAC was formed under the guidance of Rev Fr. A.J. Saviance

- The College introduced two new courses, B.Com Model 2 Marketing and B.Com Model 2 Logistics in 2014. In addition to the other courses, BA English Literature, Communication and Journalism (Triple Main) and BA Animation were started in the year 2015. The College also welcomed the first PG programme of M.Com in the same year. Introduced in 2020, MA in Graphic Design is the latest addition to the programmes offered by the College.
- Rev. Fr. Mathew Vattathara CMI joined RCMAS as the Director of the College in 2020 while Rev. Fr. Ajeesh Puthussery CMI assumed the role of Principal marking the beginning of a significant chapter in the College’s history. The duo characterised an impactful leadership and contributed to the institution’s growth and development, with a clear and compelling vision to enhance the academic excellence and holistic development of the students.
- In 2023, Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences welcomed Dr. Laly Mathew as its new Principal. Under her strategic leadership, the College entered into a range of activities and initiatives, including the formation of various Clubs and Cells. The College also initiated various accreditation processes like KIRF, NIRF and NAAC during her tenure.
- Since its inception, Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences has made significant advancements in the academic and extracurricular spheres. The College has consistently performed well in University rankings and has received numerous awards for excellence in education. The institution is also known for its active participation in various cultural, sports, and social service activities, reflecting its commitment to the all-round development of its students. In the academic year 2023-24 alone, the College bagged 40 university ranks. The College continues its stride to excellence through its sincere efforts.
