Course Details

Get your hands dirty as you investigate functional ceramic forms. This class will take the beginner through basic ceramic hand-building techniques and introduce them to wheel throwing.

More advanced students will work on creative individual projects to master skills and design. This class explores textural surface techniques with mid-range reduction/high-fire oxidation glazing and offers opportunities for alternative Raku firings.

When you complete this class you will have several finished functional pieces to take home and enjoy every day.

 Skills acquired in this class include:

  • Basic hand building techniques including pinch, coil, and textured slab construction.
  • Introduction to wheel throwing including wheel set-up, centering, and pulling walls for functional forms.
  • Glazing techniques including Underglaze decoration, Mid-range oxidation/ High-fire Gas reduction, and opportunities for Alternative Raku firings.
