Description Of The Training

Registrations available now!In 6 months, you could be a trained automotive technician with the core skills and abilities employers are looking for.

It all starts with completing this foundational program of fundamental courses that will build you from the ground up and teach you how to diagnose and repair all major vehicle components including engines, electronics, fuel and exhaust systems, transmissions, and body control systems like a true automotive professional.

ITA courses are designed for the real world and focus on the skills that hiring managers at automotive repair and maintenance shops, car dealerships and tire shops want to see in their candidates. Here are some examples of tasks you may be asked to perform:

Diagnostic Functions

The word “service” in automotive maintenance starts with you, the automotive technician.

Our courses are designed with this in mind; technicians working in the field must be able to work with and understand customers, clearly explain complex technical issues, and establish customer expectations.

Satisfied customers are repeat customers. For example:

  • Listening to customers and working with them to understand their vehicle questions.
  • Perform diagnostics using computerized diagnostic tools
  • Communicate problems and solutions to customers, clearly explaining all options.
  • Explanation of prices
  • Accurate estimation of time needed for repairs

Mechanical Functions

Technicians often find themselves performing real repair work on vehicles of all makes and models. These types of repairs include wear and tear and other damage to many parts of modern vehicles. For example:

  • Oil change
  • Engine Performance Diagnosis and Repair
  • Replacing the drive train
  • Wheel Alignment and Follower Control System Recycling
  • Brake Wear Diagnosis and Replacement

Electrical Functions

Modern automobiles use extremely complex electrical systems, as computers help perform many daily driving tasks in even the simplest cars. ITA's automotive technology graduates are prepared to maintain and repair these vital systems. For example:

  • Accident prevention systems
  • Automated parking assistance systems
  • Brake and ABS (anti-lock braking system) controls
  • Electronically controlled gearboxes
  • Power and electronically assisted steering systems

Hybrid Power Systems (Overview)

We believe the best training comes from learning in a realistic environment, like the automotive repair shops you see in every community.

So, by design, our students receive hands-on, on-the-job training in what was a real, working automotive repair shop. What better way to prepare our graduates, along with the practical skills you need to succeed, for a smooth transition into the workforce.

All courses in the ITA Automotive Technician program include the use of hand tools and specialty tools commonly associated with the trade, such as:

  • Common and Specialized Hand Tools
  • Wheel balancers
  • Alignment machine (parallelism)
  • Engine and vehicle diagnostic equipment
  • Braking towers
  • Lifts
  • Motor hoists
