This course is aimed at learners who need to understand the risk of legionella bacteria as part of their job role and to know how to prevent water borne disease caused by legionella bacteria.

The qualification provides learners with the knowledge and understanding of the health effects of Legionnaires’ disease, the control measures that should be in place to prevent it as well as the consequences for not complying with relevant legislation and codes of practice.

 

The qualification is split into two pathways relevant to the learner’s workplace:

  • Pathway 1 Cooling towers and evaporative condensers.

  • Pathway 2 Hot and cold-water systems

 

What’s the course about?

Both courses contain the Mandatory Unit 1 that covers:

  • The health risks associated with legionella bacteria.

  • How legislation and codes of practice support the management of legionella bacteria.

  • How to control the risk of legionella bacteria.

The course then splits into 2 pathways for the learners work environment.

Pathway 1 Unit 2: Cooling Towers and evaporative condensers.

Understanding the risks associated with legionella bacteria in cooling towers and evaporative condensers.

How to control the risks associated with legionella in cooling towers and evaporative condensers.

Pathway 2 Unit 2: Hot and Cold-Water Systems:

Understanding the risks associated with legionella bacteria in Hot and Cold-Water Systems.

How to control the risks associated with legionella in Hot and Cold-Water Systems.

 

Assessment:

  • This qualification is assessed by learner workbook.
  • This assessment model requires learners to provide a short response to prescribed questions within a workbook.
  • Successful learners will have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding across the breadth of the qualification syllabus.
  • Refresher training is normally every 3 years.
