Welcome to the world of Hospitality Management. This academic area is full of opportunities to travel and work with people from all over the world. The industry is fast-paced and high-energy and allows you to work in some of the most beautiful vacation spots on Earth! Southwest Minnesota State University offers the Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management.

Our program is broad-based and includes studies in Hotel & Event Management and Culinary Management.Our four- year program prepares students for positions in hotels, restaurants, convention bureaus, resorts and other hospitality and recreational facilities.

The Hotel & Event Management concentration focuses on contemporary issues related to strategic management in the hotel and event industry. Students are prepared for employment in management trainee and supervisory positions at hotels, public institutions and private clubs, entertainment venue manager, wedding sales manager, convention and meeting manager, event manager, etc., with the opportunity for advancement to upper-level management positions.

The Culinary Management concentration prepares graduates for positions as supervising chefs in hotels, restaurants, clubs and resorts, cafes and eateries, hospitals, catering companies, and more. This concentration will allow students with a passion for culinary arts to obtain a baccalaureate degree and advance professionally in the future

 

Internships

Hospitality Management students need to complete two internships prior to graduation. The purpose of internship requirement is to expose students in a real-life industry setting across various industry sector or service levels.

Students can use internship requirements to identify their area of interest in the industry sector or service positions. Below are places our Hospitality Management students have completed their internship experiences in the recent past.

Career opportunities include being a Food Service Manager, Guest Services Manager, Catering Coordinator, Event Planner, Production Manager, Restaurant Manager, Dining Room Manager, Sous Chef, Assistant Housekeeping Director and Food & Beverage Manager.
