Before it was Gift of Dance, Ruley Bartie successfully ran Ruley school of Dance for several years in Durbanville in the Northern suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa.

Amanda Klotz (See the "Teachers" page of the website for Amanda's bio) moved to Cape Town from Canada in 2006 and began teaching for Ruley in 2007.

In 2010 when Ruley decided she was nearly ready to retire, Amanda gradually began to take over the dance school and it officially became “Gift of Dance” in 2011.

Everyone who chooses to embrace it has been blessed with "the Gift Of Dance"!

The goal of our dance studio is to tap into that GIFT and expose dancers at an early age to as many unique opportunities as possible to "enhance the dance" in each and every dancer. I believe the Gift has been given to share, and to be a blessing to others. I also believe that every single experience, from classes, to workshops, to performances, competitions etc… make a dancer better. So the more experiences they have the more opportunity to improve and grow, and learn.

We take part in Competitions and Exams and have performed regularly at various events and venues like Ratanga Junction, the Artscape Theatre, The Baxter Theatre, CTICC, Hillsong Church and many more! Dancers have achieved their WP and SA colours for Hip Hop on various occasions.

Gift of dance has 2 divisions. We have our competition division and then, everything else!

This includes – Technique classes, Eisteddfod choreography, Exam work, and concert choreography.

Classes in 2021 will be taught by Amanda, Shameelah, Caitlin and Jaime. We will also still see other members of the team from time to time as our schedule opens up to the schools and we can add in more classes. You'll surely be seeing Anzelle, Graham, Anri and Jaime around soon.

Caitlin Mackay started ballet training at the age of 4 and modern dance training at the age of 5. She began her ballet training with Ilze Louw and joined Dianne Cheesman's Cape Junior Ballet Company in 2009. She completed her Royal Academy of Dance Advanced 2 examination with Distinction in 2013 with Kim Day at Reddam House Dance Academy with additional training from Dianne Cheesman at UCT ballet school. She trained in modern dance with Colleen Kitching for over 12 years touring to the Grahamstown National Arts Festival for four different seasons. She spent 2014-2018 training as a full time vocational ballet student under the instruction of Martin Schonberg. She has toured to Portugal with the Cape Junior Ballet Company and danced in various overseas workshops with English National Ballet, The American Academy of Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater. She has performed in, Cape Town City Ballet's productions of Sleeping Beauty and Coppelia, performances of 'Dancers love Dogs' and 'Dancers for Dancers', the National Dance Trust's production of 'A Spartacus of Africa' and Martin Schonberg and Adele Blanc's 'Archangel'. Through the University of Stellenbosch she has qualified as a Pilates teacher now working for the Claremont Chiropractic Health Center, is in her final year of RAD ballet teachers training and is completing her AIDT modern teachers qualification.
