All CSD Ballet classes are based on the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) graded syllabus.
The RAD promotes a strong understanding of Ballet technique and is the largest examination and teacher training syllabus in the world.
This method offers training for both recreational and competitive dancers in all of our programs.
The graded examination process for our Part-Time and Full-Time competitive dancers typically begins in Grade 1 Ballet (Grade 2 in school), with students generally progressing through the exam levels yearly or bi-yearly until graduation.
The highest RAD Ballet exam level to attain is Advanced II, and if passed with Distinction (the highest passing grade level), dancers may prepare for a Solo Seal exam.
The Solo Seal exam is a pass or fail performance graded at a professional level.
To be invited to participate in any Ballet exam, dancers are required to take at least 2-4 Ballet classes per week for the duration of the school year, with the number of classes required depending on the exam level they are striving for.
Since 1986, the Canadian School of Dance (CSD) and its co-founders and co-directors, Fran Coyle (A.R.A.D., T.D., A.I.S.T.D.) and Monica Adjeleian (A.R.A.D., Honours I.S.T.D.) have prided themselves on maintaining the highest standards of dance training.
Over the years, our CSD teachers have educated and inspired thousands of individuals by using established and renowned syllabus structures, as well as their artistic talents, to train award-winning and high-achieving dancers.
In a supportive and encouraging environment, we strive to motivate each student to reach their full potential as a dancer. CSD has earned a reputation not only for excellence in dance training but also for our safe and warm environment built on a philosophy that believes every person can learn to dance, regardless of age and perceived abilities.
