This course provides participants with knowledge and skills to undertake basic welding practices using MIG, TIG and stick welding.
Overview
This basic welding course includes the theoretical and practical components to meet the skills and knowledge required to undertake basic welding using gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW or TIG), gas metal arc welding (GMAW or MIG) and manual metal arc welding (MMAW or stick).
Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:
Identifying risks associated with welding
Implementing correct hazard reduction practices
Safely applying welding practices
Identifying material properties
Selecting correct welding processes to achieve a safe and effective weld
Welding processes such as:
Gas tungsten arc welding
Gas metal arc welding
Manual metal arc welding
Simple welds in the flat or down position
Training and assessment are conducted at Site Skills Training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable industry training facilities.
Site Skills Training and Competency Training run weekly high risk work licence courses and qualifications designed to help you or your employees advance in mining, resources, oil, gas, construction and engineering industries.
This course is recommended for beginners/hobbyists with no welding experience who do not require a qualification.
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to: Identify the basic technology relating to welding Recognise and carry out safe practices Deposit beads, butt and fillet welds using different techniques
Rail welding training teaches proper techniques and best practices for achieving consistent and high-quality welds, which are essential for ensuring the safety and reliability of rail systems.
This course provides the skills and knowledge required to join together two metals that possess different chemical or mechanical properties, and so aren’t necessarily a natural fit for each other. The training is workplace/site-specific and is customised to the requirements of the customer.
Whet your welding appetite! When learning a new skill it is always best to start with the fundamentals, and for welding that is the MIG. This 3-hour taster class will introduce you to the process of welding and then give you some hands on experience running beads.
