Overview

This basic welding course includes the theoretical and practical components to meet the skills and knowledge required to undertake basic welding using gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW or TIG), gas metal arc welding (GMAW or MIG) and manual metal arc welding (MMAW or stick).

 

Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:

  • Identifying risks associated with welding

  • Implementing correct hazard reduction practices

  • Safely applying welding practices

  • Identifying material properties

  • Selecting correct welding processes to achieve a safe and effective weld

  • Welding processes such as:

    • Gas tungsten arc welding

    • Gas metal arc welding

    • Manual metal arc welding

  • Simple welds in the flat or down position

 

Training and assessment are conducted at Site Skills Training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable industry training facilities.
