It was originally named Amaechi Basketball Centre after British NBA star John Amaechi, who grew up in Stockport and learnt his basketball under Joe Forber, the club's co-founder. John, who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic and Utah Jazz, was a key figure in the venue's construction and eventually player there competitively for the Magic once his NBA career had come to an end.
The club, which was established in 1997, is a not-for-profit organisation with charitable status.

Basketball Club committed to providing access to basketball for all school children, teenagers and adults
The hall is also used for various other sporting activities including 5-a-side, wrestling and circuit training as well as Junior Y and team building events. At the top of the sports hall we also have a 100m running track.
Basketball training is offered by Spelthorne Atoms Basketball Club for all ages and skill level. We encourage new players to come along, make friends, learn new skills and experience our friendly training sessions.
We endeavour to follow the latest Government and Basketball England guidance in order to return to basketball safely. currently there are no COVID restrictions however hand sanitiser and cleaning equipment will be provided during the training sessions.
