Studios are spacious and each is equipped with a computer to use as a valuable educational reference.
This private lesson format continues during the months of September to April inclusively. Early in May, the format of our school changes to band rehearsals, where students have the valuable opportunity to share their music with other students of similar age and experience.
Lesson slots are available Monday to Friday starting at 3pm, as well as Saturdays and Sundays during the day.
Every year there is at least one special event featuring a solo artist or band. Presentations are given specifically to our students to educate, entertain and inspire! Artists that have appeared in the recent past include: Doc Walker, the Rascal Flatts touring band, Indicator Indicator, Brent Fitz and Todd Kerns who are the drummer and bass player with Slash... just to name a few. We believe that these types of events add greatly to the musical experience available at The Music Cellar!
Online lessons due to Covid may be implemented throughout the year due to government protocols.
Welcome to The Music Cellar! For over 35 years The Music Cellar has been Winnipeg's Premiere Music School, providing innovative musical education to thousands of dedicated musicians.
The Music Cellar began in the basement of original owners and operators, David and Brenda Schneider in 1985. The school eventually grew too big for "the cellar" and moved to its current St. Anne's Rd location 18 years ago.
This important move allowed TMC to increase enrollment and expand its musical programming. After dedicating their adult lives to operating The Music Cellar, David and Brenda made the very difficult decision to sell their music school.
They were looking for like-minded individuals with the experience required to take the reigns of the business so they could continue their love of teaching and remain actively involved in TMC.
The Music Cellar was purchased in Sept 2018 by Vaughn & Collette Smith. Vaughn and Collette started teaching privately in 1980 and 1985 respectively, and opened Modern Music in their home in 1995. After 10 years they moved to Vancouver where they taught at West Vancouver's Creber Music Academy.
Eventually re-locating back to Manitoba, they started The Ste-Anne School of Performing Arts in Ste-Anne, MB and after 8 successful years moved back into Winnipeg where along with The Music Cellar, continue to operate their home-based music school, River Park South Music.
We welcome you to "The Music Cellar family", our cohesive team of talented and dedicated musicians and educators. Our teachers are performers, recording artists, clinicians and students/graduates of music who understand what it takes to be well-rounded and professional in today's musical climate.
