The core modules for specialisation in Economics are Economics and Statistics. In the first year of study, students become thoroughly acquainted with the South African economy and its challenges.
Students are also introduced to economic theory and concepts, as well as the basic tools of micro- and macro-economics. In the second year of study, the focus is on advanced economic theory and instruments.
In the third year of study, modern economic policy-making and analysis are emphasised, while particular attention is given to public policy, international trade, economic analysis and the history of economic thought.
