Course overview
This 36-week course is an exciting insight into the Beauty industry and a great starting point for school leavers with National 5 qualifications.
The course introduces the basic beauty skills you need for entry into the industry with practical and theory units covering Facial skin care, Waxing, Massage techniques, Manicure, Pedicure, Nail Art, Make-Up, and Customer Care.
You will work in our salons and studios which will give you valuable practical experience in realistic environments. You will be assessed on your practical abilities along with written assessment criteria where applicable.
On successful completion of this course, you can apply for the NC Level 6 Beauty Care.

Placement information
There is no work placement required for this course, however you will be working on clients in our realistic employability salons and studios.
How the course is assessed
All practical assessments are carried out on paying clients within our salons.
Assessment of theory will include portfolio building and open and closed book assessments.
Edinburgh College was formed on 1 October 2012 as part of the merger of Edinburgh's Jewel and Esk, Telford, and Stevenson colleges. The college has four campuses, all of which were previously the campuses of the constituents of the merger:
On 17 April 2012, Edinburgh's Jewel and Esk, Telford, and Stevenson colleges collectively submitted to the Scottish Government a business case for their merger into a single "Edinburgh" college.
The merger was approved by the Scottish Ministers, and came into force on 1 October 2012. Edinburgh College values it’s rich history, especially those of the many legacy colleges that have come together over the years to better serve the learners of the Edinburgh and Lothian’s region.
A project is currently underway to collate the history of Edinburgh College and its legacy institutions and to create an archive of material to tell its story. Lots of interesting items have already been uncovered including old prospectuses, student newsletters, photographs and a log book from Ramsay Technical Institute dated 1923.

This course covers all aspects of fashion and client makeup. It was especially designed for aspiring makeup artists who wish to gain the skills and confidence to pursue a career in this robust and satisfying industry. (Yes, we are suitable for beginners).
