Whether you are an absolute beginner or have studied and used the language for several years, there's sure to be a language course for you at COL. Courses are for all adult learners, from 16 to 99+ years old.
Language tutors are expert language teachers passionate about teaching you how to communicate in your chosen language. All language courses focus on communication skills through task-based learning, with a particular emphasis on listening and speaking.

The British Sign Language (BSL) - Introduction course is designed for those interested in learning British Sign Language or improving on existing skills to work towards SQA accreditation.
This course is for anyone who wishes to learn some basic techniques of British Sign Language. You do not need any previous experience of British Sign Language to start this class, it will introduce you to techniques used to help you decide if you would like to progress to an accredited course.
The level 1 award in British Sign Language can be taken without any previous BSL experience. This qualification allows learners to gain basic skills and confidence in the two areas of production and reception of BSL.
You will study all aspects of deafness as a social and cultural phenomenon. You will be immersed in Deaf culture, history and education, will develop fluency in British Sign Language and will learn sign linguistics and the theories surrounding BSL/English interpreting.
You will develop your skills in British Sign Language (BSL) in a range of straightforward personal/social and transactional/vocational contexts. You will further develop your skills of understanding and producing straightforward language using BSL.
