Course Details

In this design course the students will perform commercial building design project with relation to its legal framework defined by the Zoning Bylaws and Ontario Building Code using Building Information Modelling (BIM) software. 

Topics include site plan development, building layout including wall and roof systems, project documentation requirements, and legal framework of building construction. Future trends of BIM will also be explored in this course.

Credit Status

One subject credit in the Civil Engineering Technology program.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  • Grade building site to accommodate paved areas and water drainage using BIM.
  • Implement zoning bylaws and building criteria to optimize the usage of the building site.
  • Create a 3-D model of a building adhering to Ontario Building Code rules.
  • Produce project documentation for a commercial building compliant with industry practices and drafting standards.
  • Research and discuss future trends of BIM within the engineering industry
