Would you like to build a career as a carpenter? Then start with the Carpentry program at Hennepin Tech. As a student you will gain the knowledge and hands-on experience to construct, install, erect and repair structures to comply with all existing codes and in a manner that exhibits skill and craftsmanship.
You will also learn to read blueprints, sketches and specifications for types of materials required and standards of work. Get hands-on training with hand tools, power tools and equipment. From floor and wall framing to roofing to insulation, this program gives you the foundation for a career in carpentry.
Hennepin Technical College (Hennepin Tech) was founded in 1972 when 13 public school districts formed an independent post-secondary school. Named Suburban Hennepin County Area Vocational Technical Centers-District 287, it was the first suburban college in Minnesota.

Highlights
This course is an introduction to the woodworking tools available for member use at Phoenix Forge. This course will provide a comprehensive overview of shop safety and procedures as well as best practices for a majority of the stationary power tools.
This is the course designed for people with no prior woodworking experience. Through discussion and hands on experience you will learn about the steps necessary to begin with a rough piece of wood and finish with a small table of your own design. The class will meet for six weekly sessions.
This course will teach you how to prepare a bowl blank with an axe (via demonstration/instruction), how to turn that blank into a bowl using turning hooks and various techniques, and how to finish the bowl with drying oils, paint, and other finishes.
Introduction to Woodworking is a nine week course that serves as the preliminary class in our three course furniture making series. Here you will have an opportunity to learn about the characteristics of wood and the basic principals of woodworking through lectures
In this workshop, students will learn the basics of kumiko, including the use of hand tools to cut the pieces and assemble the frame. Each student will work on a small project to finish and take home.
