Course Details

This exam has been accepted as the national exam of Canadian English in context. The exam results are accepted for immigration purposes and they are also accepted by several educational institutions. Our CLBEnglish program incorporates CELPIP supplementary material into the curriculum to familiarize students with the exam.

It is important to note that our courses use adapted CELPIP material, which is non-level based; the level of each student is determined by their result on the exam.

 

Course Length

There is typically no exact duration for these courses, but in general students demonstrate an increase of 1 or 2 levels after completion of a 16-week course, or one semester.

 

Entrance Requirement

CLB 4 is required to enter a CELPIP course. Students write an entrance exam to determine their level.

 

PreCELPIP

These courses introduce students to the language required to reach CLB 5 on the CELPIP exam. These courses focus on the four main components of language: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The most important element is that students will start to do testing similar to the CELPIP exam at their level. 

  • CLB 3/4: Introduction to basic English language grammar and vocabulary.
  • CLB 4/5: This course maintains its focus on language building for CLB 5. It introduces some real exam material.
  • Length: Each course generally runs 12-weeks; or one semester.
  • Entrance Requirement: Students write an entrance exam to determine their level. In general, 70% in the current course is required to advance to the next level.
  • Advancement: Students are able to challenge the level exam to advance after 8-weeks in each level.

 

CELPIP General

These courses prepare students for the CELPIP General exam directly by practicing exam material. These courses focus on the four main components of language: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The most important element is that students do testing material similar to the exam. 

  • CLB 5/6: These courses focus on preparing students for this level by practice of Reading parts 1/2; Listening parts 1/4; and basic writing and speaking responses.
  • CLB 7/9: These courses focus on preparing students for this level by practice of reading parts 3/4; Listening parts 5/6; and higher level writing and speaking responses.
  • Length: Each course generally runs 12-weeks; or one semester.
  • Entrance Requirement: Students write an entrance exam to determine their level. In general, 70% in the current course is required to advance to the next level.
  • Can be used for Immigration Purposes; Permanent Residence
  • Accepted by some educational institutions (Norquest College; Concordia University)

 

CELPIP LS

These courses focus on preparing students for the CELPIP LS, which can be used for citizenship. These courses focus on the four main components of language: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. However, The most important element is that students will do test material for achieving a minimum of CLB 4 required for citizenship.

  • CLB 3/4: Introduction to basic English language grammar and vocabulary.
  • CLB 4/5: This course maintains its focus on language building for CLB 5. It introduces some real exam material.
  • Length: Each course generally runs 12-weeks; or one semester.
  • Entrance Requirement: Students write an entrance exam to determine their level. In general, 70% in the current course is required to advance to the next level.
  • Advancement: Students are able to challenge the level exam to advance after 8-weeks in each level.

 

Foundations

This course is designed for students who would like to start preparing their Academic knowledge. It focuses on building academic language and reading test skills through the practice of reading and listening material related to IELTS. The course introduces important vocabulary and ideas of major topics and themes for IELTS writing and speaking.

Furthermore, it builds academic writing skills by introducing grammar and sentence structure use and essay structure development.

  • Length: The course takes 16-weeks/ one semester to complete.
  • Entrance Requirement: Students should have CLB 6 to enter this course. You could do a level test; or provide proof of this level. 
  • Advancement: Students should reach IELTS Band 5-6 after completion of this course.
