The course covers manicures and pedicures, facials, lash and brow treatments, waxing, make up, spray tans, lash extensions, body massage, gel nails and more!
This programme is intended for people who wish to learn skills in analysis, planning, personal presentation, communication, professionalism plus a broad range of beauty services.
This programme is intended for learners who have little or no prior learning or experience in beauty services.
Our aim is to encourage participation on this programme with the view to not only achieving a qualification that can be used all over the world but also to nurture personal development and soft skills for life.
Graduates may develop lifelong friendships and skills, including personal presentation skills, communication, client care, required by the industry and employers.
Our syllabi, schemes of work and assessments are based on international syllabi which enable them to apply for employment overseas, on cruise ships, in international health resorts and other employment within the ever increasing wellness industry worldwide.
Our programme will as such, increase employability, visibility and accessibility to some of the world's best opportunities.
The programme will include full body massage skills, advanced hair removal, gel nails, specific product training, simulated work experience, reception and sales skills.
The programme includes hands-on experience with case studies, receptionist roster and retail sales experience.
Included in the programme is a recognition of maori and pacific peoples cultural awareness, sensitivity around modesty, separate laundry (towels and sheets not with linen used for dishes for example). Te reo rangitira. We encourage whanau to attend the school for treatments.
We are implementing an evolution service excellence programme within the programme which will see excellence in client services, health and safety, cultural awareness with expectations that all students will demonstrate cultural knowledge and sensitivity as related to the industry.
The programme topics will include:
Nail services - manicure and pedicure, consultation techniques, product selection and application, including gel nail techniques, homecare and follow on advice.
Hair removal services - waxing, hot wax, warm wax, roller wax, advanced hair services, intimate hair removal, consultation techniques, hair and skin analysis, treatment planning, product selection and application, homecare and follow on advice
Facial and skincare services - facials including skin analysis, masks, massage, lash and brow services including false lash application, make up application and instruction, product knowledge, consultation techniques, treatment planning, product selection and application, homecare and follow on advice
Body massage - full relaxation massage, consultation techniques, treatment planning, product selection and application, homecare and follow on advice
Spray tanning services - commercial spray tanning techniques using a gun and a tent, consultation techniques, product selection and application, homecare and follow on advice
Science - biology, nutrition, physics and chemistry as is appropriate to the services offered and products used. All main body systems will be understood and their relevance to the services explained. Main ingredients in the products will be identified and their uses explained. Electrical currents and their uses within treatments will be identified and explained and the safe use of electrical equipment will be demonstrated.
Nutrition - eating well and general nutritional detail will be understood and students will be able to advise clients of a healthy eating pattern and balanced diet. Students will be able to analyse a client's current diet and make recommendations as appropriate.
Skin diseases and disorders - will be covered as in consultations and students will be able to recognise and describe causes and treatments of contraindications and explain who they affect the treatment.
Small business and reception skills - students will undertake reception duties, booking in clients, reminding clients, preparing consultations and all paperwork for the client, filing the records, updating records, telephone techniques, computer skills within the online booking system, pricing, payment techniques, sales and retailing, meet and greet, directing clients, escalating complaints or feedback when necessary and appropriate, managing bookings and therapists, cash management, applying kpi's, promotions, merchandising, events planning and stock control.
Successful graduates will be capable of working independently or within a clinic environment.
They will be able to seek employment as independent practitioners in beauty salons, clinics, day spas, resorts, hotels, own small business, home salon, mobile business.
Graduates can choose to undertake one itec international diploma examinations at the end of their programme. (additional costs apply)
Graduates can apply to be a member of the beauty practitioners association of new zealand and can continue to further study in level 5 beauty therapy, spa therapies or massage programmes or other complementary industries.
Graduates will be awarded the new zealand certificate in beauty therapy (level 4) [ref:3444]
Entry is open to any persons 16 years and over who are nz citizens or permanent residents or australian citizens with national certificate of educational achievement (level 1) [ref: 0928] or equivalent.
Applicants must possess a good level of communication and presentation and be confident in their ability to complete the level of coursework in order to be successful. They undertake a full course briefing to ensure they fully understand the content, aims and outcomes of the programme and that it meets their needs. It's important that students have support systems in place to assist them to reach their goals, in terms of study time available, family and childcare support.
Any applicants whose first language is not english may be required to provide evidence of an overall ielts (academic) band score of 5. 5 (with no score below 5 in speaking, reading, writing and listening) or equivalent.
