This tutor led, one-day CPD workshop will introduce you to the basics of working with diverse communities and ensuring that your practice is accessible and inclusive.

You will learn about terminology and identities, BAME and LGBT+ identities and inclusion, supporting people with disabilities, the Equality Act 2010 and how that protects diverse communities, issues faced by minorities and barriers to accessing therapy, plus how to work therapeutically with diversity and difference.

This is an interactive CPD where thoughts, reflection and participation are encouraged. You will also work on an action plan to help you develop your inclusive, accessible practice.

Day content will include discussion on:

  • The Equality Act 2020

  • Terminology & Identities

  • Intersectionality

  • The impact of prejudice, discrimination & hate towards people from diverse communities

  • Barriers that potential clients from diverse communities face when accessing therapy

  • Working within a Code of Ethics

  • Working therapeutically with diversity & difference

  • Race and Ethnicity

  • Sexual orientation and gender identity

  • Disability

  • Terminology and identities, with a specific focus on LGBT+, BAME, and disabled communities.

  • Intersectional identities.

  • The impact of prejudice, discrimination and hate towards people from diverse communities.

  • Barriers that some sections of society experience when accessing therapy and how to overcome them.

  • Equality legislation and working with its remit, particularly the Equality Act 2010.

  • Working within a code of ethics in relation to diversity and equality and understanding your responsibilities as a therapist.
