CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)

Aims

The course aims to help Site Managers to:

• Manage and implement health, safety and environmental aspects on site, in accordance with current legal provisions and within the context of their management role

• Implement new guidance and industry best practice

• Develop an understanding of responsibility and accountability for site health, safety, welfare and the environment

• Recognise that a safe site is efficient, economical, productive and environmentally friendly.

Topics Covered

The five-day course will cover a wide range of subjects including but not limited to:

• The Health and Safety at Work Act, Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and other applicable legislation

• Health & Safety Management Systems

• Risk Assessments & Method Statements

• Induction, Training and Effective Communication

• Leadership and Worker Engagement

• Inspection & Audit and Statutory Forms, Notices and Registers

• Management of Occupational Health, Welfare, Stress and Mental Health

• Control of Substances Hazardous to Health, Lead, Asbestos, Dust & Fumes, Noise and Vibration.

• Manual Handling

• Electrical Safety

• Temporary Works and Excavations

• Working at height

• Scaffolding

• Demolition

• Confined spaces.

Pre-requisites

There are no formal entry requirements, however, delegates should hold, or be about to hold, the role of a site manager. Previous health and safety knowledge is recommended. Those without previous health and safety management experience are recommended to sit the two-day SSSTS course. Delegates must be competent
