Beginner Level Students Develop The Skills Of Reading Music, Fingering And Tone Production (Embouchure And Breathing)
Beginner level students develop the skills of reading music, fingering and tone production (embouchure and breathing). As students progress they are introduced to more advanced repertoire and technical exercises that prepare them for both solo and ensemble playing.
Many of our students are already receiving instruction in high school music and band programs. We will often work with the same repertoire that students are playing at school providing more in-depth attention to technique and style. Students may even choose to participate in Royal Conservatory examinations in their instrument.
Students normally begin lessons around the age of eight or nine years when their physical size is suitable for instruction in these instruments.
Our Story:
The Manotick School of Music (MSM) opened its doors in 1991 and continues to provide musical instruction to students of all ages and skill levels in the Manotick area. In 2014, the ownership of the school changed hands and MSM students were combined with those of Musical Thought Studios, also located nearby in Manotick.
Today the strengths and talents of both schools operate as Manotick School of Music under the direction of Lisa Bing, founder of Musical Thought.
Our Philosophy:
Our goal at Manotick School of Music is to not only provide high quality music lessons, but to instill the artistic habit in all of our students and their families. Sure, taking music lessons can improve reading and math skills, concentration, self-esteem, and school grades…but there are also more personal reasons for studying music.
Time and again, music has been identified as a universal language because of its ability to speak directly to us without using words. The artistic habit is making room in our lives for these conversations.
Our teachers are all experienced, qualified, dedicated music instructors and professional musicians, each of them passionate about their art and eager to instill in their students a love of music. So come visit us here in Manotick and learn what music can do for you!
Regardless of the style of music, a solid musical foundation is essential, which is why we a traditional, reading-focused method of learning is implemented.
