You can expect to gain some basic skills in a number of areas in order to progress on to further study in a more specialist area. You’ll complete a range of practical assessments and cover a number of common themes, such as working with machinery and tools, health and safety on a site, and working in a team and with customers

You will learn how to use the tools of the trade, how to work safely and make sure others are safe at the same time. This introductory course will help you to learn about these skills as well as the principles of building, block laying and how to do it.
You will learn the basic bricklaying techniques, skills and terminology used by a bricklayer. This introduction will give you the confidence to take your first steps into a career in bricklaying.
You will have the opportunity to work on many live projects and benefit from site visits, industry talks and demonstrations from experts. You will also be encouraged to showcase your skills at local and national competitions, including the Guild of Bricklayers Southern Regional Craft Competition.
