Aim
To develop practical skills in the management of child and adult patients presenting with medical emergencies.
Objectives
Demonstrate Basic Life Support for adults and children
Outline symptoms of the choking patient
Discuss the management of acute anaphylaxis
Identify use of Emergency Equipment (oxygen, airway adjuncts and drugs)
Demonstrate the use of an Automated External Defibrillator
Outline how to recognise and respond appropriately to asthma, diabetes, fainting, epilepsy and myocardial infarction in patients
At the end of the course delegates should be able to:
Discuss the various medical emergencies that might arise both in the dental chair and in dental practice.
Outline the signs and symptoms of common medical emergencies including choking, fainting, epilepsy, myocardial infarction.
Act proficiently and to work as a team in the crisis management of medical emergencies whatever your job role.
Understand how to reduce the risk of a medical emergency occurring in known patients.
Demonstrate how to use an Automated External Defibrillator in a medical emergency.

The Emergency First Aid at Work course is a one-day module which will enable you to act with knowledge and confidence as an ‘Appointed Person’ in relation to First Aid in the workplace.
A basic first aid at work course that covers all the essentials to equip you with the knowledge and skill to maintain a safe working environment.
This half day course can be used as a stand-alone Basic First Aid qualification or can also be attended as an Annual Update for current First Aid at Work certificate holders.
