A thought (an automatic thought) comes to our mind. Along with it is associated a feeling. Thought and feeling together make us do a particular behavior. Throughout the day, this thought-feeling- behavior cycle continues relentlessly.

This cycle is known as the Triad of Cognition. When a disturbing thought comes to our mind, a negative feeling is attached to it, and we feel low, depressed, angry, resentful, guilty, shameful, etc. Our behavior may reflect our mental state. Sometimes we behave inappropriately, react according to our personality and regret it later.
