Fundamentals of Design

• Fundamental elements of design and their definitions.

• Introduction to principle of design
• Color theory
• 2 Dimensions & 3 Dimensions
• Theory of design

Drawing & Graphics

1. Shapes, building elements, human postures, plants.
2. Orthographic projections, isometric and axonometric
3. Study of shades and shadows
4. Perspective views with colouring

Space Planning

1. Line weights, sheet measurement, title panel & presentation of portfolio
2. Hatching
3. Scales and drawing
4. Plans, elevations and sections, reducing & enlarging of objects
5. Anthropometry
6. Space standards, bubble diagram, case study (residence).
7. Standards, case study (corporate space)

Materials Applications

1. Wood, Metal, Glass, Plastics, texture, rubber, Paints, Adhesives

Communication Skills

1. Introduction – Orientation for improving the skills of grammar, punctuation and vocabulary in English, focused primarily on developing communication and presentation skills
2. Written skills: writing skills in paragraph writing, summary writing, reviews of articles etc. Types and classification of reports, difference between technical, scientific , legal and other types of communication , format and elements of reports, bibliography, footnotes, appendices, and references, specification writing, etc
3. Formal letters and specifications – business and official letters styles and format , requests for specifications and other types of business enquirer, agendas and minutes of meeting and official records.
4. Literature survey – use of libraries, knowledge of indexing and available reference material.
5. Spoken English – neutralization of accent, pronunciation, formal and informal communication, importance of voice and body language.
6. Listening comprehension – role of listening in communication, listening for accent, rhythm and intonation, listening for main idea and specific information.
7. Use of Multimedia in communication – Computer adaptive presentations slide shows using the over head projector, etc. Style and format for the presentation of the, technical reports and official presentation.

Basic Computer Applications
The students shall learn the basic computer skills. End exam shall be practical exam.

Brief overview of computer components – Rom, Ram, input devices, output devices etc. And internet concepts: introduction to internet, use of internet, various search engines, searching strategies, saving images and documents etc.
