The course is a mix of practical and theory and you will leave us with a comprehensive understanding of domestic electrical installations. We have some large electrical training bays here at YTA so we can really get stuck in and understand how a domestic electrical installation works!
The skills and qualifications gained on this course will enable you to carry out domestic electrical work as an electrician from a as little as replacing a socket or light fitting, adding a socket or light fitting even up to a full house rewire but any alterations to circuits would need to be inspected and tested by an electrician who is a member of the competent persons scheme.
To be a member of the competent persons scheme you must hold your DEI, Safe Isolation and the 18th Edition qualifications plus have electrical experience (2 years).
YTA is a NOCN Cskills accredited training and NVQ assessment centre and can offer non-accredited courses, nationally recognised qualifications at level 1 as part of a course and even NVQ level 2 and NVQ level 3 assessments.
YTA offer a range of construction courses, qualifications and NVQ’s. We also offer electrical qualifications form including 18th Edition and domestic electrical installer courses through LCL Awards.
Depending on whether you are wanting to work in the domestic market as a self-employed tradesperson, a landlord aiming to renovate a house or your aim is to be self-employed with the option to offer your services as a sub-contractor working on construction sites will depend which course or qualifications are best suited to you. Level 2 courses are assessed by a range of methods including online multiple-choice exams, practical assessments, and written assignments.
As an Electrical installation student you will have access to an exciting range of specialist resources at the College. You will use our unique workshop equipped with state-of-the-art tools and facilities to develop a range of skills preparing you for industry.
The course will enable you to plan and prepare safe installation, test, commission, and handover grid connected solar photovoltaic and battery storage systems.
This course completes the required element to underpin an apprenticeship in electrical installation. It is a valuable course which increases employability within the Building Services industry.
The course focuses on developing the hands-on use of tools and components to complete real installations, and develops students' theoretical knowledge of the underpinning maths and science which explain how these systems work.
