Teacher's Experience
Kieran Copley is a Pianist, Percussionist and Composer based in Houston, TX. Born to Irish parents and raised in England and the USA, a passion for classical music and traditional Irish music from an early age has informed a wide-ranging career as a performer. He has studied at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music under Composers Chris Malloy, Leanna Kirchoff and William Hill as well as Percussionist John Kinzie. He is an advocate for new classical music and traditional folk music from around the world. Copley has performed in Ireland and the USA as part of the American Festival for the Arts (2010, 2011 Composition department award), Summer Music on the Shannon (2005-2008 featured artist at the Historic Georgian House in co. Limerick, Ireland), TMEA all-state choir (2011) and others. He played percussion in the award-winning Houston Youth Symphony from 2008-2011. At the Lamont School of Music, He was an active part of many ensembles including the percussion ensemble, composition department, wind ensemble, men’s choir and sabar (Senegalese drumming) ensemble. As a composer, his ballet score “Panophobia” was performed live on NPR-KUHA’s program ‘The Front Row’ in July 2011. His primary teachers include Karl Kundinger (piano), Craig Hauschildt (percussion), Aaron Alon, Karim Al-Zand and Michael Remson (composition & theory).
