You learn structure and vocabulary that allow you to function in everyday settings such as ordering food in a restaurant or asking for directions.
You will begin to understand complex language structures in an immersion classroom setting while learning to speak primarily in the present tense.
How am I Assessed?
This is a non-credit course without letter or numerical grades. You receive verbal feedback on your conversation and grammar skills from your instructor during class. Written homework is typically corrected in class.

Dutch is the language of the Netherlands and Belgium –two countries with ties to the world’s richest trading partners. Despite the fact that English proficiency abounds in both, Dutch speakers have the upper hand in business, travel, and personal dealings within these two countries.
This introductory conversation course will familiarize you with the pronunciation of Dutch and will introduce basic vocabulary and grammar. The emphasis will be on understanding the spoken language and simple texts, as well as engaging in basic conversation in Dutch.
