The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification is ideal for those working in lower hazard environments (e.g. shops, offices), with smaller teams (i.e. less than 50 people), where HSE guidelines specify staff should be EFAW qualified or where they are supporting colleagues who hold a full First Aid at Work qualification. It is nationally recognised and accredited to RQF level 3 (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) / SQF level 5 (Scotland).
The informative and enjoyable one-day course will equip learners with the skills and confidence to respond to a range of first aid incidents and emergencies.
Qualification details and validity
The Emergency First Aid at Work (England, Wales, Northern Ireland RQF level 3 / Scotland SCQG level 6) qualification is valid for three years. The course consists of six contact hours, including of practical and theoretical activities.
Course syllabus
The course syllabus includes… Responsibilities and reporting | Assessing the situation | Dealing with an unresponsive casualty| Basic hygiene in First Aid | Burns | Epilepsy | Resuscitation (including the use of a defibrillator) | Anatomy | Minor injuries | Bleeding control | Choking | Shock
Assessment and certification
Assessment is ongoing by the instructor, along with a multiple choice question paper, and a three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria. In addition, the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours.
Age restrictions and group sizes
A maximum of 12 learners are allowed per instructor and must be a minimum of 14 years of age. An individual cannot assume a responsibility in the workplace until they reach the age of 16, and then it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that the student is suitable for that role. The qualification will expire as dated on the certificate, irrespective of age.
We are delighted to offer any of our training courses or accredited, nationally recognised qualifications as an on-site (in-house) option. This extremely flexible approach means that courses can be delivered at your premises (or a suitable venue of your choice) over multiple sessions depending on your organisation’s needs, for example…
Morning, afternoon, twilight, evening or weekend sessions (or a mixture);
Sessions over consecutive days or split over several weeks; or
Single sessions for entire teams – with no maximum group size when multiple instructors are provided (perfect for team building or school INSET days).
Other key benefits of on-site training include…
Much more cost-effective for larger groups;
Course content can be tailored to specific industries and sectors, ensuring that subjects are relevant and engaging for the audience;
The learning environment is familiar to course delegates;
Team members’ qualifications are easier to manage (i.e. expiry dates are the same); and
Sessions can be adapted and flexible to fit around your day (i.e. start/finish/break times etc)
