English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are offered in the fall and spring semesters to adults who live or work in Richardson and the surrounding North Texas communities. RALC’s ESL for Adults program offers beginning to advanced class levels where students learn to read, write, speak and understand English.
Online classes incorporate digital literacy into the curriculum, teaching students to utilize remote work, email, and presentation tools. Due to the great number of parents in our ESL programs, the curriculum also incorporates family literacy, with lessons on school and family-related topics.
With more than 19,000 adults in our community who don’t speak English well or at all, our work focuses on training volunteer ESL teachers, recruiting adult students and placing students into appropriate classroom instruction. Students attend classes taught by trained volunteer ESL teachers.

MLI’s TOEFL program is an intensive look at the skills and strategies necessary to achieve a successful score on the four sections of the Internet-Based Test (iBT).
Students will receive training on how to successfully negotiate the format, content areas and experience of taking the TOEFL Test. Students will focus on the core skills for the exams, including listening, speaking, vocabulary development, reading and essay writing.
It prepares students to communicate in English with a diverse array of speakers from around the world, who have a wide range of native and non-native accents.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a standardized integrated-skills test, where the English proficiency of non-native speakers is evaluated. The goal of the TOEFL Prep program is to prepare students to succeed on the test.
