Students in the Environment Health and Safety Management certificate program will:

  • Learn to apply technical knowledge of safety hazards, health risks and dangers to prevent injuries and illness while supporting broader public safety.
  • Gain the expertise to manage the social, health, environmental and legal issues associated with the built and natural environment through the lens of environmental health and safety.
  • Participate in a 224-hour field placement to gain hands-on learning experience.
  • Be prepared to pursue the Certified Health and Safety Consultant designation upon graduation.
  • Have a head start on occupational health and safety courses and environmental safety courses, as well as take first steps toward acquiring other designations such as an occupational health and safety certificate (OHS certificate).

Admission Requirements

Admission to Durham College’s Environment Health and Safety certificate program requires:

An earned diploma in one of the following:

  • Environmental
  • Chemical Laboratory
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Pharmaceutical and Food Science
  • Water Quality
  • Fire and Life Safety Systems
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Electromechanical Engineering

Or

  • A science or engineering degree or diploma with at least one course in environmental regulations.
  • Proof of English language proficiency required.

Applicants who are internationally educated in a non‐English speaking country must meet Durham College’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

  • Year one domestic: $2,999 (CAD)
  • Year one international: $15,161 (CAD)
