Course Details

Objective

  • To evaluate the applicant’s knowledge and performance. To determine if the applicant meets the criteria to be certified as a “Level One Firefighter” (in accordance with NFPA 1001 – 2019 edition)

 

Prerequisites

  • Pro Board/IFSAC Hazardous Materials Awareness & Hazardous Materials Operations (Core Competencies and Mission Specific Competencies) prior to certification
  • 18 years of age
  • Must be an active member of a recognized Fire Department or an Industrial Fire Brigade
  • Must provide proof of current Standard Level “C” First Aid Certificate
  • Must have completed all level one Firefighter qualifications from the Nova Scotia Firefighters School or equivalent

 

Target Group

  • Intended for firefighters who want to be certified with Firefighter Level I Qualifications

 

Methodology

  • Format combines a written examination and evaluation of practical performance.

 

Content

  • Test incorporates all skills and knowledge described by the NFPA 1001- 2019 edition and IFSTA Essentials of Firefighting 7th Edition for Level I Firefighter, as adopted by the Nova Scotia Firefighters School.

 

Certification

  • Certification for this course is through the Nova Scotia Professional Qualifications Board.
