Flute Lessons are offered by Rachel's Music Lessons. Many people find it difficult to get a sound out of the flute at first, while some people get it straight away, for most it can take weeks or even months for sound to be produced easily and consistently, but with practice it becomes effortless.
The flute is similar to saxophone and clarinet in fingering, but in terms of sound production it is completely different. Instead of using a reed to produce sound like the other woodwind instruments, the flute has a small hole that we blow across to make sound. If you’ve ever blown across the top of your water bottle and its made a “hooting” sound – that’s exactly like the flute! Although flute is a little more complicated.
Many people find it difficult to get a sound out of the flute at first, while some people get it straight away, for most it can take weeks or even months for sound to be produced easily and consistently, but with practice it becomes effortless.
For Small children flutes can be purchased with a curved head, which is great if you have short arms. Teens and adults can usually get away with playing on a normal straight flute.
Even though the flute is made of metal and doesn’t have a reed, it is still classed as part of the woodwind family of instruments. This is because back when flutes were first invented they were originally made from wood, and they required air to play, hence how they earned their spot in the woodwind family!
There are actually many different types of flutes in the flute family. The smaller the flute is, the higher it sound and vise versa, the larger the flute is, the deeper its sound.
