Prepare food for others with confidence. Do you cook, prepare or serve food for a living or are looking to enter the industry? Do you run a kitchen or own a business that does those things?

Do you run a team who need reliable and current food safety knowledge? Then this is a must-have course for you and your staff!

Course Description

In this two day course you’ll learn all about:

  • Food-borne illnesses: what causes them and how to avoid them

  • Cross contamination and the surprising ways it can happen (and how to prevent it)

  • Why clean clothing matters

  • Covering up (not food – you!)

What you'll learn

  • We’ll explain New Zealand food legislation and show you how it applies to you and your workplace. That way you’ll know what to do – and what not to do – to keep customers safe.

  • We’ll discuss the hazards associated with food borne illness including microbes, physical hazards, chemicals and allergens, plus go further into the controls necessary to minimise or eliminate these risks.

  • We’ll also show you simple, tested, proven ways to handle food safely.

  • As a result, you’ll not only know what you’re required to do, you’ll also know how to do it.

What you'll be able to do with this training

  • You’ll walk out with a Wintec Food Safety for Food Operators Certificate of Completion that’s recognised by employers around New Zealand.

  • You’ll also be able to prepare food for others with real confidence, knowing you’re doing the right things to ensure it’s safe to eat.

  • To pass, you must attend all lessons and pass two multi-choice tests. You’ll need a good understanding of written and spoken English.

Topics

The course covers all relevant information in food safety practices, hazards and controls. It doesn’t matter what stage, experience and purpose you have – the course is adapted to teach you what you need to know whatever your background and motivation.

Prerequisites

All students must have adequate reading and writing English skills, as two written assessments determine successful completion and certification. Students must attend all scheduled lessons (12 hours) to successfully complete the course.

Food Safety Culture Training

Why Food Safety Culture Training. Food safety systems on paper or drive do not produce safe food, people do. Asking someone or even training them to follow a certain procedure will not necessarily achieve objectives and, importantly, consistent results.
