Free machine embroidery can be used to embellish the garments and accessories that you make and is great fun to do.
Material Costs: Threads & fabric provided but feel free to bring materials of your own if you wish.
Recommended Abilities: Suitable for sewers of all abilities.
After graduating from the Scottish College of Textiles, Galashiels in 1990 with a degree in printed textile design I established my studio and business in Edinburgh. I begin to incorporate free motion embroidery into my work.
This is the technique of drawing freehand with the sewing machine to illustrate an image or design. Building on my knowledge of garment construction I particularly specialise in historic stay and corsetry based garments.
At this workshop you will learn the basic stitches to begin with. We will then look at the kit you will be given and make a start together so that you feel confident to take it home and complete.

In the 4 hour class you will learn how to hoop up your fabric and set your machine up ready to create wonderfully wobbly lines. You’ll then get to grips with using your machine without feed dogs, ‘drawing’ with your machine and adding splashes of colour with fabrics.
We’ll spend time learning stitches and techniques required for the specific project, and then we’ll spend some time stitching together and in a socially distanced way!
