After graduating from the Scottish College of Textiles, Galashiels in 1990 with a degree in printed textile design I established my studio and business in Edinburgh. I begin to incorporate free motion embroidery into my work.
This is the technique of drawing freehand with the sewing machine to illustrate an image or design. Building on my knowledge of garment construction I particularly specialise in historic stay and corsetry based garments.
This afternoon class explains how to drop the feed dogs on your machine and then work within a frame to create your own designs. We will also look at working with an embroidery foot.
This class is for absolute beginners to dressmaking and sewing. You will discover how to use the sewing machine, make seams and understand pattern instructions. If you have a machine of your own please feel free to bring it with you to learn on.
Using metric pattern cutting techniques learn how to draft a skirt block using your measurement & make a calico mock-up to check the fit. We then explore manipulation of the basic block to create various skirt design.
