This class is different from our other classes, as the primary language of instruction is French, although the staff also speaks in English. The children easily comprehend the daily routines, simple questions, and they also learn to speak for themselves when they need to be excused from the table.
They are also encouraged to speak short simple sentence in French. The staff translate stories in English so the non-French speaker may understand the story. There is one Registered Early Childhood Educator and an Assistant in the room.
The knowledgeable and engaging staff in this class encourage the children to learn the French language through hands-on activities which foster vocabulary development and comprehension skills. The curriculum encompasses the areas of language, mathematics, science and discovery, creative arts, music and drama, and physical education.
The benefits your child will have from learning French:
It’s a growing language and it’s supposed to be the most widely-spoken language in the world by the middle of this century. This is because, in many parts of the world, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and even China, it is a language that people widely use.
English and French complement each other because of the number of French-origin words already in use in the English language. Learning French would therefore allow your child to understand English better.
French is the official working language for several international organizations. Your child can one day be practicing international law or even be a diplomat!
LeRoux Froebel is a licensed private daycare centre that has been serving the beaches area since 1996! Our mission to cultivate the lives of the children in a safe and loving environment has been evident all through these years. The community has witnessed our passion and love for children, hence, we have gained the trust and confidence of our parents, who have been our partners throughout this journey.
We are licensed by the Ministry of Education and the City of Toronto. We are governed by the Child Care and Early Years Act which supports the health and safety of children, increases the government's oversight of caregivers, and helps parents make informed choices about their child care options.
Our Philosophy
LeRoux Froebel Bilingual School is committed to providing a learning environment that supports and fosters children’s freedom of expression, growing independence, and positive self-esteem. We believe that children are competent, curious, capable and rich in potential. We believe that every child is of equal importance and we work to create an atmosphere of acceptance, where children like and respect themselves and others. Play is a child’s work and our children are exposed to play-oriented activities.
Program Statement
LeRoux Froebel’s program goals, policies and pedagogy are consistent with the documents from the Ministry of Education such as the Child Care Early Years Act standards including the “ How Does Learning Happen. which is Ontario’s pedagogy for the Early Years. The four foundations of this document which we adhere to are Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement and Expression.
The four foundations ensure optimal learning and development. These foundations inform the goals for children and expectations for programs. The four foundations apply regardless of the child’s age, ability, culture, language, geography, or setting.
Our goals for the children, consistent with the Ministry of Education pedagogy, include the following view of a child:
Every child has a sense of belonging when he or she is connected to others and contributes to their world.
Every child is developing a sense of self, health, and well-being.
Every child is an active and engaged learner who explores the world with body, mind, and senses.
Every child is a capable communicator who expresses himself or herself in many ways.
